APU Empowering Women Through Financial Literacy
On 14th June 2025, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) played host to an insightful session titled “Money Talks: Personal Finance for Women”. This impactful event, held on APU’s vibrant campus, attracted a diverse audience of female academics and students, united by a common goal – enhancing financial literacy among women.

The talk was delivered by Ms Rejina Rahim, Managing Founder of Wahine Capital and a leading advocate for women’s financial empowerment. With an illustrious career in finance and leadership, Rejina has become a trusted voice in shaping financial independence for women. Her participation underscored the importance of open conversations around money matters, particularly for women navigating the complexities of personal finance.
Bridging the Gap in Financial Literacy
Jointly organised by MMICARE Association and supported by PayNet Akar, this event was hosted by APU’s School of Computing (SoC) as part of its continuing effort to foster holistic education. The primary objective was clear – to equip women with essential financial knowledge, enabling them to take control of their economic well-being.
Women across the globe often face unique financial challenges, and this talk sought to address that critical gap. By introducing practical strategies and creating awareness of financial opportunities, the session empowered participants to approach money management with confidence and clarity.
Insightful Topics and Practical Guidance
The session covered fundamental yet crucial areas such as setting financial goals, budgeting effectively, understanding credit scores, and building personal wealth. Delivered with clarity and real-world examples, these insights resonated strongly with women students and young professionals who are eager to build a secure financial future.
Rejina emphasised that financial literacy is not just a skill but a necessity in today’s economic landscape. She highlighted the role of informed financial decisions in achieving independence and stability, particularly for women balancing career aspirations and personal responsibilities.
Aligned with Broader Goals
This initiative was not only about numbers and balance sheets; it was a movement towards gender equality and economic independence. By creating an inclusive platform for dialogue, the talk aligned with MMICARE Association’s mission of Education, Empowerment, and Environment.
Established in June 2002, MMICARE Association, also known as Miss Malaysia India Care Association, a Malaysian government-registered independent women's volunteer organisation, continues to champion volunteer-driven efforts to uplift women across Malaysia.
The event also reflected APU’s unwavering commitment to industry and community engagement, providing students with opportunities to learn beyond textbooks. The programme was successfully coordinated by Ms T. Tulasi Sathyabama Appalasamy, Lecturer at SoC, and Dr Mohanaapriya Sina Raja, Part-time Lecturer at the School of Marketing & Management (SoMM).
A Step Towards Financial Freedom
As the session concluded, participants walked away equipped with actionable strategies and renewed confidence. The message was clear: financial empowerment begins with knowledge. Through collaborative efforts such as this, APU continues to champion impactful initiatives that prepare its community for life beyond academia – informed, empowered, and ready to thrive.
