The School of Psychology (SoP) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) recently hosted an impactful workshop led by Ms Izzatie Seraj Ahmad, Industrial-Organisational (I-O) Psychologist and Client Success Manager at Intellect.
Under the guidance of Ms Dhevaania C Gendsen (Lecturer, SoP at APU), the aim of the workshop was to explore the evolving role of I-O psychology in today’s dynamic and fast-paced workplace, highlighting its growing relevance in addressing organisational challenges while aligning with global sustainability efforts and long-term business strategies.
Bridging Psychology and Business Strategy

Throughout the workshop, Ms Izzatie highlighted the shift from traditional therapeutic models to a more proactive, industry-centric approach.

Then, students engaged in interactive discussions and case studies on real-world workplace challenges, such as managing employee burnout, promoting diversity and inclusion, and aligning individual motivation with organisational goals.

These practical segments allowed students to reflect on how psychological insights can be used to shape healthier and more productive workplaces.
Aligning with Sustainable Development Goals
The workshop showcased how I-O psychology directly contributes to:
- Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3)
- Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5)
- Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8)
On top of that, Ms Izzatie emphasised the importance of creating socially responsible workplaces that prioritise mental health, equity, and decent working conditions, which are key factors in sustainable organisational development.
She also stressed that integrating these goals into workplace practices not only benefits employees, but also enhances overall business performance and resilience in a competitive global market.
Reflections on the Workshop

Ms Dhevaania reflected on the success of the workshop, noting its relevance in preparing students for the evolving demands of the modern workforce.
“The workshop not only broadened students’ understanding of I-O psychology, but also underscored the importance of embracing a role that supports both organisational growth and social responsibility.
“Also, it is exciting to see the field evolving, and i look forward to how the next generation of I-O psychologists will help businesses adapt to a rapidly changing global environment while driving meaningful social impact.”
