APU and ZEISS Collaborate to Shape the Future of Engineering Talent

APU’s School of Engineering (SoE) organised a specialist talk on campus on 4 March 2025, titled “ZEISS Academic Programme (SEA 2024) for APU Interns”.

Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) has taken a significant step in bridging academia with industry expertise by partnering with ZEISS, a globally renowned German enterprise in optics and optoelectronics. This makes APU the first private university to collaborate with ZEISS, unlocking new avenues for students and academic staff to enhance their technical and intellectual capabilities.

Following the formalisation of the APU-ZEISS partnership on 24 August 2022, the university has seamlessly integrated ZEISS’s expertise into its curriculum. APU’s academic staff have been certified as ZEISS Metrology Trainers, and ZEISS metrology lessons have been embedded into the university’s Engineering Design module—ensuring students are equipped with cutting-edge industry knowledge.

Unlocking Career Opportunities Through Industry Insights

Building upon this collaboration, APU’s School of Engineering (SoE) organised a specialist talk on 4 March 2025, titled “ZEISS Academic Programme (SEA 2024) for APU Interns.”

The talk attracted 55 APU engineering students from various disciplines.

The talk was facilitated by Mr Yeap Wei Leeng, Sales and Marketing Manager at ZEISS, alongside Mr Nazreen Naim, Application Engineer at ZEISS. They shared valuable perspectives on the essential skills and knowledge students need to thrive in industry settings, reinforcing ZEISS’s commitment to fostering future-ready talent.

Hands-On Learning and Career Advancement

ZEISS highlighted its dedication to developing young engineers by offering 16-week internship positions across various departments. These opportunities allow APU’s graduating engineering students to gain hands-on experience, immerse themselves in the company's operations, and develop industry-specific competencies.

The session also featured personal experiences and success stories, illustrating how meaningful engagements with industry specialists can significantly enhance career prospects. Through direct interaction with professionals, students were encouraged to refine their skills and broaden their professional networks.

Strong Student Participation and Positive Feedback

The session aimed to provide insights into exclusive internship opportunities designed for APU students, helping them transition from academia to real-world engineering environments.

The talk attracted 55 APU engineering students from disciplines including Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and Computer Engineering. Arranged by Ir Ts Subhashini Gopal Krishnan, Senior Lecturer at SoE, the session provided in-depth insights into ZEISS’s operations in the optical and optoelectronics industries.

The response from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing keen interest in the internship programme. “The ZEISS internship programme is exceptionally well-structured to help students unlock their potential and prepare for a successful career in their chosen field,” said Ir Ts Subhashini.

A Bright Future for Aspiring Engineers

The success of the specialist talk underscores the immense value of industry collaborations in shaping the future workforce. APU’s engineering students recognised this opportunity as a crucial stepping stone towards their professional aspirations. With the continuous support of ZEISS, APU remains committed to equipping students with the knowledge, experience, and industry exposure they need to excel in the ever-evolving world of technology and engineering.
