APU’s SoF Conducts Second English Workshop with Suriana Welfare Society

On 27th March 2025, the School of Foundation (SoF) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) successfully concluded its second collaborative session with Suriana Welfare Society Malaysia. This child-focused NGO is dedicated to safeguarding and uplifting children in crisis, and this partnership reflects a shared commitment to education and empowerment.

A Dynamic Approach to Language Learning

This initiative brought together 22 passionate APU volunteers—comprising faculty members and students—who led an engaging English learning session tailored for children with low English proficiency. By incorporating interactive teaching methods, the programme aimed to make language learning both effective and enjoyable.

Under the guidance of Ms Iman Danish Sha, lecturer at SoF, the session was carefully designed to strengthen fundamental English skills through hands-on, activity-based learning. The highlight of the day was the English Stations concept, an innovative approach introduced by Ms Manpreet Kaur Khera, also a lecturer at SoF.

Learning Through Engagement and Teamwork

During the session, children were divided into small groups and rotated across multiple stations, each focusing on specific vocabulary-building and language exercises. This dynamic format encouraged active participation, fostering an engaging atmosphere filled with laughter, curiosity, and teamwork. The energy and enthusiasm displayed by both the children and APU volunteers made the experience not only educational but also immensely enjoyable.

A Long-Term Commitment to Education

APU’s SoF initiated its monthly workshop series in February 2025, strengthening its collaboration with Suriana Welfare Society Malaysia. These workshops will continue to run monthly through November, ensuring sustained learning support for children and families in need.

Founded in 2010, Suriana Welfare Society Malaysia focuses on key areas such as education for underprivileged children, women and child protection, food aid for urban poor families, single-mother support, and assistance for teenage pregnancies.

APU’s Ongoing Dedication to Community Engagement

APU’s SoF remains steadfast in its mission to create meaningful educational experiences for the children at Suriana Welfare Society. Beyond enhancing English proficiency, these sessions cultivate confidence and a love for learning, reinforcing APU’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. As this initiative grows, it paves the way for more impactful learning opportunities in the future.
