Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) is proud to celebrate the achievements of three talented Year 1 students from its Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) (Artificial Intelligence) programme, who have already demonstrated their prowess in virtual reality innovation.

Remy Ong Jing Yi, Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Abdelmoteleb, and Kaemon Ng Bao Leng showcased exceptional creativity and technical acumen at the International Education Innovation Competition (Edu@Innovate 2025), held from 19 to 20 May at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Perak, Malaysia. Competing in the Higher Institution Undergraduate Students category, they secured a prestigious silver medal for their innovative project, "Frog Dissection VR".
Edu@Innovate 2025 attracted diverse participants from public and private higher education institutions, industry players, and students from preschool to secondary levels, both nationally and internationally. The competition highlighted cutting-edge innovations in educational research and practice, with multiple teams representing APU.
Innovation Meets Education

Mentored by APU’s School of Computing (SoC) academics—Assistant Professor Ts Dr Siti Azreena Binti Mubin, Dr Waidah Ismail, and Mr Au Yit Wah—the team developed "Frog Dissection VR", a virtual reality application designed to transform STEM education, particularly Biology.
“We aimed to create a virtual alternative to traditional frog dissections,” explained Team Lead Remy Ong Jing Yi. “This approach avoids the ethical concerns associated with real dissections while allowing learners to explore anatomy in an interactive, realistic environment.”
The application immerses users in a virtual operation theatre where they interact with a digital frog and surgical tools displayed on separate tables. Guided visual cues direct users through the dissection process, with performance tracked in real-time. To enhance engagement and promote active learning, the app incorporates gamification elements, providing learners with scores and tips to improve their technique.
Recognition of Innovation
The team’s innovative approach captured the judges’ attention, earning them a well-deserved silver medal. Asst Prof Ts Dr Siti Azreena praised the team’s success, remarking, “Their innovative solution not only demonstrates technical excellence but also showcases creativity in applying AI and VR technologies to address real-world challenges.”
She further noted, “This achievement reflects the students’ strong foundation in artificial intelligence, their ability to collaborate effectively, and their commitment to pushing the boundaries of immersive technology. The Silver Award is a significant recognition of their effort and vision.”
Inspiring Future Innovators
This remarkable achievement by Remy, Mohamed, and Kaemon exemplifies APU’s dedication to nurturing talent and fostering a spirit of innovation among its students. Their success at Edu@Innovate 2025 signals a promising future for these young innovators and sets a high benchmark for their peers in the field of educational technology and immersive learning.
