The School of Foundation (SoF) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) has successfully carried out its second visit of the year to Elshaddai Refugee School, as part of its collaboration with the School of Psychology (SoP).

Building on the momentum of earlier sessions, this session focused on enhancing students’ self-confidence, creativity, and interpersonal skills through the use of storytelling and drama-based activities.

Lecturers responsible for overseeing this session:

  1. Ms Iman Danish Sha (Lecturer, SoF at APU)
  2. Ms Nur Azliyana Abdul Kadir (Lecturer, SoF at APU)
  3. Ms Ruthira Nair A B Krishenan (Lecturer, SoF at APU)

APU 2 (Second Visit to Elshaddai Refugee School)

This interactive session, facilitated by Mr Tan Wei Yu (Lecturer, SoP at APU), guided students through an engaging group exercise where they created a four-part story using mahjong paper.

Each group developed original characters, storylines, and themes that highlighted positive traits and values such as empathy, teamwork, and resilience.

By collaborating to craft their stories and perform skits in front of their peers, students not only exercised their creativity but also strengthened essential soft skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Many students who were initially hesitant to participate gradually opened up, showcasing newfound confidence and active engagement.

This session provided a platform for self-expression and mutual encouragement, fostering a stronger sense of inclusion among students.

Performing their skits in front of classmates allowed students to overcome public speaking anxiety and embrace teamwork, equipping them with practical skills that extend beyond the classroom.

This initiative will continue until May 2025, which fosters not just academic enrichment, but also personal growth and confidence among refugee students.

These sessions reaffirm APU’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), with a focus on empowering refugee students through education, life skills, and emotional development.
