The Actuarial Science Club (ASC) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) organised its first-ever structured networking event called “Actuarial Pi-ty” on 14th March 2025.

Designed to connect students with professionals from across the actuarial field, the event proved to be an enriching, insightful, and highly impactful experience that fostered both career awareness and meaningful professional connections for all who attended.

Moderated by Ms Anittah Charles (Lecturer, School of Mathematics, Actuarial and Quantitative Studies), the dynamic panel discussion (featuring the four distinguished professionals) offered students firsthand insights into various actuarial career paths, key industry challenges, and the essential skills needed to thrive in the profession.

Not only that, the panel also explored several pressing topics, including the lack of accessible data in reinsurance, the growing need for strong communication skills, and the gap between academic theory and practical application.

Students were highly engaged throughout the session, asking thoughtful and well-informed questions while actively participating in the dialogue with curiosity and enthusiasm.

Rotational Networking that fostered Closer Connections

Following the panel discussion, students took part in a rotational networking session, which emerged as one of the key highlights of the event.

In small groups, they engaged in focused 10-minute conversations with each professional, creating opportunities for deeper, more personalised exchanges.

This format enabled students to explore different actuarial fields more intimately, ask targeted questions, and receive tailored advice relevant to their aspirations.

The setting also encouraged confidence-building and helped students practice essential communication and networking skills in a real-world context.

Looking ahead to future Opportunities and Growth

With its success, Actuarial Pi-ty has laid a strong foundation for what promises to be a recurring highlight in ASC’s annual calendar.
