The School of Foundation (SoF) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) successfully conducted its third community engagement session with Suriana Welfare Society Malaysia on 24th April 2025, continuing its ongoing commitment to social responsibility and child empowerment.

Lecturers responsible for overseeing this session:

  1. Ms Iman Danish Sha (Lecturer, SoF at APU)
  2. Muhammad Danish Mohd Johari (Senior Lecturer, SoF at APU)

This session brought together 15 dedicated APU student volunteers, who contributed their time and enthusiasm to support and engage with the children through a creative and reflective activity titled “A Day in my Life.”

Designed to encourage self-expression, creativity, and communication, the activity involved children using magazine cut-outs to craft visual collages that represented their daily routines.

The result was a vibrant and heartwarming session filled with laughter, curiosity, and imagination as the children proudly presented their stories to the group.

Through their creations, they were able to share glimpses of their lives while honing their ability to communicate and think creatively.

This session also marked a significant milestone, as it was the final visit for the current batch of volunteers, who had been actively participating in the Suriana Welfare Society Malaysia outreach programme since February.

To further enrich the programme and provide broader opportunities for student involvement, SoF has introduced a new quarterly volunteer rotation system.

This change will allow more APU students to take part in these impactful visits while enabling the children to form deeper, more meaningful connections with each new group of volunteers.

In a touching conclusion to the day, the children surprised the volunteers with handmade thank-you cards, expressing their heartfelt appreciation for the care, joy, and companionship shared over the past few months.

This emotional gesture left many of the volunteers deeply moved and proud of the bonds they had cultivated.

As this collaboration continues to grow, SoF remains committed to fostering empathy, creativity, and service among its students, while continuing to make a positive and lasting impact in the lives of the children at Suriana Welfare Society Malaysia.
