APU Accounting Students Shine at MICPA Accounting Students Quiz

Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) has once again proven its excellence in the field of accounting. A team of Bachelor’s degree and Diploma in Accounting students achieved commendable success as runner-ups at the prestigious Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) Accounting Students Quiz, held recently.

An Event of National Significance

Organised in collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), the competition took place on 25 April 2025 at UKM’s Bangi campus as part of the MICPA x CA ANZ Accountancy Week 2025.

This annual event aims to promote accountancy as a rewarding career and to provide a dynamic platform for students to network and exchange ideas. The event attracted a wide array of participants from leading institutions across Malaysia, including the University of Malaya, Universiti Putra Malaysia, International Islamic University of Malaysia, and Monash University Malaysia, among others.

APU’s Strong Representation

Twelve students from APU’s Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (Honours) programme and three from the Diploma in Accounting programme formed five dedicated teams of three. Under the mentorship of faculty members from the School of Accounting and Finance (SoAF), Ms Phuah Eng Sze and Ms Ili Syahirah Kamaruzaman, the students were well-prepared to tackle the challenges ahead.

A Test of Knowledge and Quick Thinking

The competition began with a rigorous written quiz in the preliminary round, designed to assess participants’ knowledge in a range of topics, including Accounting & Auditing, Taxation, Company & Commercial Law, General Knowledge, and more. This round determined which teams would advance to the finals, based on their overall scores.

After a spirited performance, APU’s Diploma students secured the 1st runner-up position in the Diploma category, earning a cash prize of RM600. Simultaneously, one of APU’s Bachelor’s degree teams achieved the 2nd runner-up position in the Degree category, taking home a prize of RM500. These achievements highlight the calibre and dedication of APU’s accounting students.

A Memorable Learning Experience

The MICPA Accounting Students Quiz, generously sponsored by major financial institutions such as Alliance Bank, Bank Islam, Deloitte, EY, and BDO, offered an invaluable opportunity for students to engage with industry leaders and peers from diverse academic backgrounds.

Reflecting on their success, the APU teams expressed gratitude for the chance to represent their university on a national stage. Their participation not only strengthened their academic prowess but also allowed them to build meaningful connections within the accounting community.
