Recently, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) hosted the fourth edition of AWS Community Day Malaysia 2026; bringing together cloud practitioners, technology professionals, industry representatives, and students for a day of learning, networking, and knowledge exchange centred on AWS services, Generative AI (GenAI), DevOps, security, and real-world cloud applications.
APU was selected by AWS User Group Malaysia as the host for the fourth edition of AWS Community Day Malaysia 2026 in recognition of its strong reputation in technology education, active student involvement in Amazon Web Services (AWS) communities, membership as an educational institution in the AWS Tech Alliance, and previous collaborations with AWS through various events and initiatives.
The event was led by Mr Amad Arshad (Senior Lecturer and Central Point of Contact for AWS Academy, School of Computing at APU), Mr Mohd Najmuddin Suki (Lecturer, School of Computing at APU), Ts T Tulasi Sathyabama Appalasamy (Senior Lecturer, School of Computing at APU), and Dr Adeline Sneha John Chrisastum (Senior Lecturer, School of Computing at APU), with support from lecturers across various Schools within APU and committee members of APU AWS Student Builder Group.
Exploring Cloud, AI, and Security
Throughout the event, participants had opportunities to engage directly with cloud architects, DevOps engineers, artificial intelligence (AI) specialists, and other technology professionals; gaining exposure to current industry practices and perspectives across the technology landscape.
The event featured a range of technical sessions covering cloud computing, AI, serverless technologies, and security. Among the key sessions were:
- AWS SageMaker Studio Lab 101
- Migrating Monolith to Serverless
- AI with Amazon Bedrock
- Cloud Security Compliance
Through these sessions, participants gained greater exposure to areas including cloud architecture, serverless application development, AI development, security, and compliance, while learning how AWS services can be applied to address practical technology requirements.
APU Students Take the Stage
APU students also contributed to the event through presentations and technical showcases; demonstrating their ability to apply cloud technologies to real-world challenges.
These student-led projects provided a platform for them to share their ideas with industry practitioners, while gaining experience in presenting and discussing technology solutions beyond the classroom.
Strengthening Industry-Ready Cloud Skills
Overall, AWS Community Day Malaysia 2026 provided participants with opportunities to strengthen their understanding of cloud architecture, GenAI, DevOps, security, and networking through technical sessions, demonstrations, student showcases, and industry interactions.
Reflecting on the event, Assoc Prof Ts Dr Tan Chin Ike (Head, School of Computing at APU) shared that hosting AWS Community Day Malaysia 2026 provided a valuable platform for students to engage with cloud practitioners, explore emerging technologies, and gain a better understanding of how their knowledge can be applied in real-world environments.
“These experiences complement their academic learning and help prepare them for the evolving demands of the technology industry.”
From AWS’s perspective, Ms Olta Alushi, Senior Leader of Solutions Architecture at AWS, noted the growing importance of cloud and AI capabilities in addressing increasingly complex technology needs.
