Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Marketing & Management (SoMM) students went on an outing from lecture halls to lush pastures on 21 August 2026, heading to Farm Fresh @ UPM in Serdang, Selangor.

Led by APU’s Senior Lecturer & Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) Coordinator, Ms Harjinder Kaur, and Farm Fresh’s Tour Coordinator, Ms Syikin Yong, the multidisciplinary delegation brought together undergraduate and postgraduate minds from digital marketing, international business communications, business management, and e-business.

This initiative highlights SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrating how collaborative academic-industry bridge-building fosters experiential learning and equips future leaders with practical solutions.

The day kicked off with an immersive tractor-guided tour titled ‘A Journey Through Sustainability’.

APU’s SoMM students uncovered the secrets of sustainable production in a vibrant agricultural setting.

Students navigated the sprawling agricultural landscape, observing how natural resources, livestock, and technology intertwined.

Rather than treating sustainability as a mere compliance tick-box, Farm Fresh demonstrated how environmental stewardship drove long-term productivity and corporate trust, directly supporting SDG 15: Life on Land through sustainable land-use practices and animal welfare.

Next came ‘From Pasture to Product’, where students delved into the rigorous science of dairy excellence.

From cattle nutrition and welfare management to precision milking and strict quality control, the cohort witnessed the sheer operational complexity required to transform raw agricultural inputs into premium consumer goods.

Farm Fresh Tour Coordinator, Ms Syikin Yong guided APU SoMM students through solid waste separation and composting processes that supported environmental conservation and agricultural productivity.

The most eye-opening segment, ‘Closing the Loop’, explored circular economy innovations aligned with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Students discovered how organic waste morphed into valuable compost and liquid fertiliser, proving that environmental responsibility could seamlessly power business resilience and align with modern environmental, social, and governance (ESG) frameworks.

The diverse cohort found unique lenses for the experience. Students from digital marketing explored brand positioning, experiential touchpoints, and how seeing closed-loop recycling firsthand effectively dismantled greenwashing scepticism.

Meanwhile, business management participants analysed operational efficiency, animal welfare standards, and strategic business expansion, including Farm Fresh’s acquisition of Inside Scoop.

International business communications students observed how corporate storytelling, transparency, and efficient operations united to foster enduring consumer trust, and e-business learners examined customer-centric business models and scalable value creation.

Reflecting on the trip, digital marketing student Ni Luh shared how seeing the full lifecycle — from cow dung composting straight through to the on-site soft-serve café — turned sustainability into a powerful, shareable brand loyalty tool.

Fellow student Reshika highlighted the eye-opening reality of watching milk production from scratch, while Yaashvin Devraaj praised the precision and hygiene witnessed during the cooling and processing stages.

Zikrunnahar appreciated the link between efficient operations and trusted branding, and Voaharitiana Saturnin Ratovomanana marvelled at high recycling rates and care protocols for older cattle.

“The most meaningful learning takes place when students experience business concepts in action,” added Ms Harjinder Kaur, summing up a transformative journey that left future business leaders equipped with practical insights into modern corporate success.
