Recently, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) hosted the Third International Conference on Digital Technologies for Sustainable Agriculture; a two-day event.
Organised by the Asia Pacific Centre of Robotics Engineering (APCORE) at APU, with the support of the Agricultural Revitalisation in Higher Education Institutions of Asian Countries (AGRHI) project under Erasmus+, the conference served as a global platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation in smart agriculture, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, precision agriculture, and data analytics.
Academic institutions and industry collaborators include Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Malaysia, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), India, University of West Attica (UniWA), Greece, Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, Eastern University, Sri Lanka, Anna University, India, Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery; Polish Academy of Sciences (IMP PAN), Poland, Agroz Group Sdn Bhd, and JP Global Engineering Sdn Bhd.
Day One: Exploring Smart Agriculture and Precision farming Technologies
The conference commenced with keynote presentations and technical discussions focused on the evolving landscape of smart agriculture and digital farming systems. Experts from academia and industry; including Prof Dr Siva Kumar Balasundram, Head of the Department of Agriculture Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and Dr Riyaz Ahamed, Independent Researcher and Trainer, shared valuable insights into emerging trends in precision agriculture, emphasising the role of digital technologies in enhancing productivity, optimising resource utilisation, and supporting sustainable farming practices.
The collaborative environment fostered meaningful discussions between researchers, practitioners, and industry representatives, encouraging future partnerships and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable agricultural development.
Day Two: Driving Innovation through AI and Intelligent farming Solutions
The second day of the conference focused on the implementation of advanced technologies and innovation strategies within the agricultural sector, with particular emphasis on the growing role of AI in modern farming systems.
Discussions highlighted key developments in AI-driven crop monitoring, predictive analytics, automated farming systems, and intelligent resource management, demonstrating how data-driven technologies can enhance efficiency, sustainability, and productivity, while addressing global challenges in food production and environmental stewardship.
These discussions explored technology adoption, implementation challenges, and future opportunities for innovation, reinforcing the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in advancing sustainable AgTech across diverse agricultural ecosystems.
